The Guernsey Radio Control Car Club is always looking for new members. We're a friendly, helpful bunch and we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Whichever discipline of racing you wish to take up, you'll always be made to feel welcome.
Membership to the club is currently £20 a year for adults and £10 per year for children. Each race meeting costs only a few pounds but varies by event type.
So firstly, and most importantly, you'll need a car. We race the following classes:
This is the cheapest and simplest form of racing. These cars come "Ready to Race" out of the box and all cars must stay completely standard. Lapscoring is done manually meaning that a transponder is not needed. Meetings are run all year round inside in the Vale Church hall.
2WD buggies are relatively simple machines. However because this class is essentially unlimited, these are a huge leap up from 1/18th. These cars generally come in kit form and have to be assembled. In addition to the car, you will need Radio gear, a steering servo, a motor and speed controller, a transponder, batteries, wheels/tyres and paint for the bodyshell.
4WD buggies are generally very fast and quite complex. Again, these cars generally come in kit form and have to be assembled with the same requirements as their 2WD counterparts, however 4WD buggies generally receive a lot more punishment and some parts such as the steering servo should be tougher than one you'd put in a 2WD buggy.
Rallycross buggies are powered by a Nitro engine and are significantly larger than a 1/10th scale buggy. There's nothing quite like the smell of Nitro fuel, but you'll need a bit of know-how to run one of these.
